If you’re planning on attending the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest this year, you might want to prepare yourself by learning one of the traditional dances so you can participate fully in the festivities. The dance I am highlighting today? The Chicken Dance. If you have small children, they will most likely know the series of rhythms and moves already, but for those of you over the age of eight, listen for the polka and off you go:
- When you hear the first cheeps of the Chicken Dance, run to the dance floor and join the forming circle.
- Hold your arms up in front of you, forming beaks with your thumbs and fingers. Open and close your “beaks” four times to the music.
- Put your thumbs in your armpits and flap your elbows four times to the music.
- Bend your knees and wiggle your hips four times to the music, placing your arms and hands like the tail feathers of a chicken.
- Straighten your knees and clap four times, with the music.
- Repeat steps 2 thru 5 four times.
- Join hands with the person on each side of you and skip around in a circle to the music, reversing the direction of the circle once.
- Repeat the entire sequence until the end of the song.
Be sure to practice this at home – you wouldn’t want to get out on the dance floor and look silly! 😉
Don’t forget that the Oktoberfest ends on October 27,2012 so take advantage of our Oktoberfest Special and book a cabin at RS Vacations today!
