New Year’s Resolutions. We are one week into 2013 and I’m guessing that most people have already fallen back into old habits and forgot what they resolved to do. Me? I didn’t make a formal list this year – too much pressure. 😉 I have resolved, however to improve my life. Yes, that is a very general goal, but by being more open in the goal I feel I’ll have more of a shot at achieving it.
The main focus of my life improvement plan is to be healthier next January 1st than I was on this January 1st. There are many facets to the plan including adding more vegetables and whole grains in my diet, practicing yoga and meditation to improve my blood pressure and overall well-being and to…..exercise. No word strikes fear and dread in most of us more than ‘exercise’. Thoughts of hours on a treadmill running nowhere is enough to send me running to a tub of Ben and Jerry’s…..
As I stop and think creatively though, I realize that I am lucky enough to live in Big Bear. A beautiful place with nature to enjoy and more activities than I have time for. What is there to do in the winter? Skiing. Cross-Country Skiing. Snowshoeing. Hiking on a clear day. A walk on the pedal path. Snow tubing the old fashioned way – trudging up the hill. Okay, that one I probably wont be doing. LOL. There are a lot of outdoor choices, not to mention plenty of indoor activities as well. And we have a few gyms up here – I really want to try Zumba. My friends say it is actually really fun.
My point is, I guess, that no matter where we live, there is something that we can find to do that will help us get healthier. If you happen to be coming to Big Bear for a visit this winter, why not try something new in the activity department? If you stay in one of our cabins, you can relax in a spa after you do! Doesn’t that sound amazing?
