Tomorrow would be Abraham Lincoln’s 204th Birthday. When I was in elementary school here in Big Bear, the father of one of my peers used to come to the school on that day and give a presentation. He dressed up like President Lincoln (he actually looked very much like him) and gave us a history of his life and Presidency. We then got to ask questions and he would answer them. It was a fun tradition that I am glad I got to experience.
Why did he do this? I believe it was because he had great respect for the man and wanted to share that with young minds. He felt that by learning of Lincoln’s history, we might remember what he stood for and embrace it. Abraham Lincoln has always been one of my favorite Presidents since that time.
President Lincoln is known for many great things, one of them being his quotes. Following are a few of my favorites:
“Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
“Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
“Whatever you are, be a good one.”
