CATS (The Community Arts Theater Society) will present their summer musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony Award classic, OKLAHOMA!, featuring such beautiful music as Oh What A Beautiful Morning and People Will Say We’re In Love. With production values as only the CATS organization can produce, the musical promises to be an outstanding theatrical experience for the whole family.
CATS brings OKLAHOMA! to the Big Bear Performing Arts Center for 12 performances: June 21, 22, 26, 28, 29, July 2, 3, 5, & 6 at 7:30 and June 23, 30 and July 7 at 1:30. Ticket prices range from $16-$28 for Adults; $15-$26 for Seniors, and $9-19 for Kids under 18.

Brews For Food – Big Bear’s Beer & Spirits Fest

Taste the Experience at the second annual Brews For Food Benefit on Saturday, July 13th. A benefit for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, Brews For Food will feature 30+ different beers and a variety of spirits from Tequila to fine Whiskeys for sampling. The day also features live entertainment on both an indoor and outdoor stage and activities for both the young and young at heart. A variety of arts, crafts and collectibles vendors will be on-hand selling their wares and Wyatt’s Cafe & Saloon will also be open serving up the mountain’s best ranch-style grub.
Saint Joseph’s Food Pantry is one of three weekly food pantries that serves the Big Bear Valley. Besides the families that pick-up at the church, the pantry also delivers food to homebound individuals. Staffed completely by volunteers, the food pantry is open to anyone who needs food every Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.. Saint Joseph’s also provides diapers and personal hygiene items.
Brews For Food is Big Bear’s only beer tasting event. The first 150 ticket buyers will receive a complimentary tasting pint glass and special V.I.P. tickets featuring early entrance, heavy appetizers and unlimited tasting will be available. Activities include fun contests and for children, carnival games, Pony rides and bounce houses.

Big Bear Summer Theater Festival presents “Songs of Broadway” at the Bear Cave Entertainment Center

The Big Bear Summer Theater Festival will take place over three weekends (July 18-20, 25-27 and August 1-3) at the Bear Cave Entertainment Center. The festival will perform a traditional melodrama “The Lost Van Duzen Gold Mine (Or How I Lost my Mind), a historical drama “Inherit the Wind” and will pay homage to the Great White Way with the musical “Songs of Broadway” highlighting songs from Broadway shows. Songs of Broadway:”Songs of Broadway,” the director is auditioning last minute acts and rehearsing others as he tries to get a new variety show open. The director is losing his wits and yet the show still must go on. The 11th Annual Xeriscape Garden Tour

The 11th annual Xeriscape Garden Tour sponsored by the Siera Club Big Bear group is set to take place on Saturday, July 20th. Participants can begin the FREE self-guided tour anytime between 9 am and noon starting at Eminger’s Mountain Nursery, located at 41223 Big Bear Blvd. in Big Bear Lake, across the street from the Denny’s Restaurant. Once registered, participants will have until 4:00 pm to complete the driving tour of the homes in Big Bear Valley.
A tour booklet, which includes the locations of the 8 stops, a map and helpful information on gardening in the mountains, will be handed out at the starting location. Experts will be on hand at each of the homes on the tour to explain the ins and outs of creating a beautiful landscape and conserving water at the same time. Several of the tour sponsors will be on hand at the Eminger’s starting location to answer questions about topics such as composting, tree care and artificial turf. Drought-tolerant plants will be on sale at Eminger’s throughout the day.
Once again the tour will feature a special FireWise home where the homeowner married defensible space with drought tolerant and native plants. Attendees will be able to pick up information on which native plants should be planted within 15 feet of the home and which should be planted outside a 15 foot circle. You CAN have a beautiful, natural yard and be FireWise, too.

4th Annual Tour de Big Bear

Held in the high country of Southern California’s San Bernardino Mountains, riders of all levels escape the summer heat and cruise alpine roadways, over high mountain passes like Onyx Summit (elevation of 8,443 feet), and around Big Bear and Baldwin Lakes. Each Tour distance includes portions of the 2010, 2012 and proposed 2014 AMGEN Tour of California. Stages Phil Liggett named “one of the best cycling stages we’ve seen in America, ever!”
Tour de Big Bear Route Details Tour de Big Bear – 25 mile route – over 700 feet of climbing. Big Bear Valley Tour – 50 mile route -more than 1,800 feet of climbing. The Grand Tour – 70 mile route – over 3,700 feet of climbing. THE CLIMB- 100 mile route – 7,425 feet of challenging climbing. Rider Privileges and Weekend Events An organized start and finish staging area at “The Village” and a bike valet during Saturday’s festivities. The event will be timed overall and include a NEW King of the Mountain Race Segment and CASH prizes for participants of the 70 and 100 mile routes. All pre-registered riders will receive a goodie bag, custom-made finishers’ medal, and our now famous high performance technical shirt. Distances will be staffed with Course Marshalls, legendary nutrition/hydration stations, host numerous first aid and repair vehicles.

Big Bear’s First Yoga Festival will take place at Camp Oaks on August 23, 24 and 25. Festival was created to bring you incredible yoga teachers, dance, vibrant music, inspirational topics, yummy food and fun activities like a climbing wall and pool – all with the beautiful backdrop of the San Bernardino Mountains. Come join us – it will be a weekend to remember! We want to extend a special invitation to anyone new to yoga, and to encourage and welcome you to join us. We have a special “Beginners Track” just for you. It offers an introduction to yoga, meditation, music and more. The Big Bear City Airport proudly presents the Big Bear Air Fair–2013. “Celebrating 110 Years of Aviation” will showcase aircraft from World War I to today’s aviation. Come and enjoy an exciting Air Fair, beautiful Airport and spectacular day. Admission is $2 and $1 for kids 11 and under. That Saturday the skies will be filled with the sights and sounds of vintage planes, skydivers, with arts and crafts vendors, food, entertainment and more.
