RS Vacations – Big Bear Lake, CA

Since I started writing this blog almost a year ago, I have covered many topics and highlighted several local activities that are available to take part in here in Big Bear. Although I have lived here for 36 years, many of them I have never tried. Over the last several weeks I have had the opportunity to take part in a couple of those fun activities with the hubby.

If you read this post I wrote about music a few weeks back, you know that I love it in all its forms. Back in the end of July, the hubby and I had the opportunity to attend ‘Music in the Mountains’. This is an annual music series that consists of 3 different performances throughout the summer that raise money to heal and sustain our National Forest. It is put on by the Mountains Foundation and takes place at the Big Bear Discovery Center Amphitheater.

We had a blast! The venue is an outdoor amphitheater that boasts beautiful mountain views and good sound. It was great fun to sit out among the pines and listen to classic, live music. We were treated to 3 different bands that night – Tribute Bands to ‘America’, ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ and ‘The Eagles’. They all performed well and folks had fun dancing up front. We really enjoyed ourselves and I definitely recommend that you take the opportunity to see one of these shows. The last show of this season is August 31. Don’t miss it!! I have also written posts about kayaking – something I’ve wanted to try for years and finally did it! We launched onto the lake from a marina in Fawnskin and spent a couple of hours paddling around the lake. It was truly beautiful and so much fun! We got a little bit of a workout, a little bit of relaxing, and a whole lot of fun.

Because we don’t own a boat, we don’t get the opportunity to spend much time on this lake of ours. We have been out with friends on wave runners and in boats over the years, but this was a new and totally unique perspective. I didn’t get photos this time, but I will try to get some the next time we go out – there will absolutely be a next time. I ❤ kayaking!
