Art on the Lake 14

Join us for the 14th Annual
ART ON THE LAKE

Art on the Lake XIV has become one of the premier fine art shows in Southern California. This is the 14th year for this fine art Festival and this year we move to the Village Events Center on Bartlett Avenue in the city of Big Bear Lake. This new venue will allow us to add music to the Festival, as well as welcome more artists.

This year’s Artists’ Reception on Friday evening, August 16, 2013 will be a special welcome and opportunity to preview the exceptional art of participating artists by all Arts Council’s members and important individuals in the Big Bear community who make Art on the Lake the success that it is.

Big Bear Lake is a year-round resort in the San Bernardino Mountains just a couple of hours from Los Angeles, Orange County and other surrounding counties. With over six million visitors a year, Big Bear is Southern California’s alpine playground surrounded by national forest with a fresh water lake at its center.

New this year, the Show will be held at the Village Events Center, located at 630 Bartlett Avenue, which is in the heart of Big Bear Lake’s downtown shopping and restaurant district. We are excited about this change and believe it to be a positive one that will allow the show to grow and expand in the coming years.
Art on the Lake draws artists and visitors from across Southern California.

THIS IS WHAT GUESTS ARE SAYING ABOUT BEAGLE’S NEST:

* It’s a beautiful home and was ideal for our family vacation. We appreciated the fully equipped kitchen with a pancake griddle and everything to make dinner and bake cookies. The Annual Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club “Fun Run” revs into town this weekend. This annual classic car show has been going on since I was a kid and it just gets better every year!

Back in the early 80’s, my parents owned an ice cream parlor in the heart of The Village so I spent a lot of time there – especially in the summer months. This was back when we had a full three months off of school for summer break (which by the way I loved as a kid, but was thankful for shorter breaks as a parent! 😉 ) so I was always looking for something to do. I remember spending hours at the Fun Run, looking at all of the cars, listening to the owners rev the engines. All of the bright and shiny colors the cars were painted fascinated me along with all of that chrome! It was something to behold!

Big Bear Lake Fun Run

Fun Run Memories – 1999

Many years later, when my son was 5, we took him to his first Big Bear Lake Fun Run. We put on our best representation of ’50’s clothes’ and spent the afternoon ooh-ing and ahh-ing all over again. Of course we each had our favorite hot rod and had many debates on why ours was the best. The car owners were happy to tell Nick all about the car, rev the engine and honk the horn for him. All in all, a great afternoon spent making family memories.

The weather this weekend looks to be absolutely perfect for this annual show, so why not head up to Big Bear with your family and make some ‘Fun Run’ memories of your own?

RS Vacations has some fantastic deals going on right now so check us out at www.RSVacations.net. We have just added weekly specials on featured homes that will make your Big Bear Getaway even more affordable than ever! Book today!!

Steve Cassling as The Fool

Steve Cassling as “The Fool” in Robin Hood-The Panto

My husband and I had some friends up from Moreno Valley last weekend. We wanted to do something fun and unique one night, so we decided to take them to see “Robin Hood-The Panto” at the Discovery Center Amphitheater. I had no idea what to expect other than a retelling of the Robin Hood story performed by two actors. It was HILARIOUS! We all truly enjoyed the performance and were amazed by the talent of the two local actors – Brian Adams and Steve Cassling.

Robin Hood-The Panto has four more performances for you to see and I highly recommend it! It plays August 2, 3, 9 & 10 at the Big Bear Discovery Center Amphitheater and tickets are only $5 for adults, $3 for teens and kids 12 and under are FREE! All shows begin at 7:00 PM and last 1 hour. Tickets are sold at the door. You wont be disappointed!!

Check out the Poster at the bottom of this post.Robin Hood 11

Here is a brief description of “Panto” for those who have never heard of it:

Pantomime (informally, panto) – not to be confused with the theatrical medium of mime – is a form of musical comedy stage production, designed for families, developed in the United Kingdom and mostly performed during the Christmas and New Year season. Modern pantomime includes songs, slapstick comedy and dancing, employs gender-crossing actors, and combines topical humour with a story loosely based on a well-known fairy tale. It is a participatory form of theatre, in which the audience is expected to sing along with certain parts of the music and shout out phrases to the performers.

Pantomime has a long theatrical history in Western culture dating back to classical theatre, and it developed partly from the 16th-century commedia dell’arte tradition of Italy, as well as other European and British stage traditions, such as 17th-century masques.
