Fall Colors and houseBig Bear Lake is absolutely ‘alive’ with color this week! I honestly cannot remember a year when the autumn colors were so vivid. Maybe it is because of all the summer rains we had, but it is stunning up here right now!! The chilly nights are perfect for a snuggly evening with a fire in the fireplace and the daytime temps are perfectly pleasant for a bike ride, hike or stroll through The Village. These wonderful autumn days wont last long though, winter will be here soon enough (check out next Thursday on the weather)! Enjoy a quick mountain getaway before the snow flies.   • California State MTN Bike Endurance Championships

  • 43rd Annual Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest

    Weekends Oct 05, 2013 – Oct 26, 2013| 12:00PM – 11:30PM

    The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest runs for seven consecutive weekends, September 14 through October 26 at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center, located at 42900 Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear Lake. The times are Saturdays 12 noon to 12 midnight and Sundays 12 noon to 5:30 p.m.

  • Flashlight Safari at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo

    Saturday Nights beginning Oct. 5, 2013 | 06:15PM – 09:00PM


    Flashlight Safari at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo   Experience the Big Bear Alpine Zoo’s nocturnal animals. As soon as the sun sets and the stars begin to shine the nocturnal animals activate, and their natural instincts take over.

    Gates open 6:15 PM and close at 6:30 PM to start the tour.  Bring your flashlight and wear warm clothes.

    Regular Admission: Under 3 years old free, for ages 3-10 $6.00, and over 10 years old $9.00.

  • 2nd Annual Big Bear Ridge Trail Run at Bear Mountain Ski Resort

    2nd ANNUAL BIG BEAR RIDGE TRAIL RUN features a 24 and 13 miles courses as well as a shorter 10K course and is the final race of the Race Ready Trail Series 2013.

    The 24 miler is one big loop in the San Bernardino National Forest, consisting of fires roads and single track. The race starts at 7,000-feet elevation and runners will reach the highest elevation behind Snow Summit Ski Resort at 8,000-feet elevation.

    The 13 miler is also one big loop in the San Bernardino National Forest, consisting of a mix fires roads and single track. It also starts at 7,000 feet elevation with runners reaching the highest elevation behind Snow Summit Ski Resort at 8,000-feet elevation.

    The 10K will have a section of out and back. This race also starts at 7,000-feet elevation and will reach its highest point at 8,000-feet. Runners will enjoy the same spectacular views as the longer runs.

    Registration is on Saturday October 5th from 3-5 pm and Sunday October 6th at 7:00 am at La Montana Mexican Restaurant 42164 Moonridge Road.

    Race Start is at 9:00 am at Bear Mountain Ski Resort 43101 Goldmine Drive.

  • Oktoberfest “Unplugged”

    Oct 11 & 18  2013 | 06:00PM – 11:30PM

    New this year at Oktoberfest is Oktoberfest “Unplugged”. The intimate Friday evening events present a fine dining experience with a five-course German dinner paired with a variety of German beers and spirits. Oktoberfest Unplugged includes traditional German polkas and sing-alongs as well as amusing storytelling by Oktoberfest founder/ Über -Burgermeister Hans Bandows and other Oktoberfest personalities. The Friday evening Oktoberfest Unplugged dates are October 11 and October 18. The cost is $95 per person, which includes a five-course pairing meal, entertainment, a commemorative one-liter dimple stein, and free admission for Saturday’s Oktoberfest celebration.   • C.A.T.S. Presents “Christmas in the Mountains” at the PAC

  • The 1st Annual Big Bear Turkey Trot

    Nov 28, 2013 | 08:30AM – 12:30PM

    The 1st Annual Big Bear Turkey Trot consists of 3 mile, 6 mile, and 9 mile Road Runs on Thanksgiving Day with Start/Finish line located at Meadow Park.  This is a FUN event for the whole family. The run course is a relatively flat 3 mile loop through the neighborhood of Eagle Point, with 6 mile runners completing 2 laps and 9 mile runners completing 3, making it easy for all abilities to participate.

    Turkey Trots are run on Thanksgiving Day in anticipation of the large meal to be had later on. Other traditions include a “turkey” prize for the overall winner and runner costume contest. In addition, a portion of race entry fees will be donated to the Big Bear Senior Center holiday food drive.

    The 9 mile race starts at 8:30am, 6 mile starts at 9:00am, and 3 mile starts at 9:30am.  Registration fees are $35 for 3 mile run, $45 for 6 mile and $55 for 9 miles.
