We have had an amazing snow storm here in Big Bear the last couple of days and have received as much of 3 feet of fresh powder in places!! It truly is a winter wonderland up here.

Before you head up, be sure to have chains for your car and have extra blankets and food with you as well. Please drive carefully!

Bald Eagle Volunteer Count at the Big Bear Discovery Center

Guided Snowshoe Eco Tours with the Big Bear Discovery Center

Winter Trails Day at the Big Bear Discovery Center

The Southern California Mountains Foundation will host the 5th annual Winter Trails Day event at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Winter Trails Day is a national event that offers those new to snow sports an opportunity to learn about and try snowshoeing and other winter activities for FREE. Go-Pro Out of the Box at Bear Mountain

Out Of The Box is an invite only resort competition taking place over the 2015-2016 winter season. Four resorts will receive identical containers full of raw materials to create, destroy and modify as they see fit- the goal being to design the most fun, most imaginative, most photo-friendly snow park possible. Bear Mountain’s creations will be unveiled and opened to the public initiating the second phase of the competition.

Resort guests are invited to compete in the Best #GoPro INSTAGRAM contest. Guests from each resort will capture and share GoPro photos on Instagram using #GoProPark, #GoPro and #BearBuilt.

One winner will be chosen from each resort. Winners will receive $1,000.00 and Next Year’s Season Pass.

The resorts themselves will be competing in the Best Overall Activation and the Best GoPro Resort Video contests.

Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam at Bear Mountain

The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is Volcom’s amateur snowboard contest series. The goal of the series is to give something back to the kids. Deviating from the established way snowboard contests are run, we put our heads together and came up with a fresh format. The event is absolutely free, on a first come first serve basis, and boasts tons of free prizes and PB&J sandwiches! Also, everyone who enters walks away with a t-shirt and stickers!! 12th Annual Scout Day at Bear Mountain

Scout Merit Badge Day is coming back to Bear Mountain! Boy scouts all around southern California will be taking advantage of this opportunity. Don’t be the only scout without this badge!!  Discounted lift tickets, lessons, and rentals will give your Scouts the opportunity to join in, and demonstrate portions of skiing or snowboarding with our Snow Sports Merit Badge counselors.

Parents and siblings are welcome to take advantage of the discounted rates. There is not a minimum requirement of participants to qualify for this event.

5th Annual Big Bear Lake “Polar Plunge” for Special Olympics at Swim Beach

Special Olympics Southern California is excited to announce the 5th Annual “Polar Plunge.” Run, walk, or dance into the chilly waters of Big Bear Lake on Saturday, March 5th  to raise funds for Special Olympics Inland Empire. For just a minimum of $50, you can participate in the coolest event of 2016 — the Polar Plunge. Not only will you brave the cold waters, but you’ll have the opportunity to earn incentives, party with friends, and support Special Olympics.

Activities begin at 10 am and “The Plunge” will commence at noon.

The Polar Plunge is an event where all participants race into the frigid waters of Big Bear Lake.  Plungers decide how deep they’ll go and how long they stay in the water. Some Plungers only get their ankles wet while others stay in until the lifeguards make them leave the water! The goal of the 4th Big Bear Polar Plunge is to raise a minimum of $100,000. Your support of this event will help Special Olympics Southern California reach out and provide year-round training and sports programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Inland Empire Region.
