Willkommen!

This year marks the 48th anniversary of Big Bear’s Oktoberfest. Beer, lederhosen, sauerkraut, polka, and of course, the chicken dance. There’s something for everyone!10010661_R_OKTOBERFEST_0904

The Big Bear Oktoberfest is a place of fun. In the mood to dance? You’re in the right place! Participate in (or watch) polkas, macaranas, circle dances, the chicken dance and more. There are plenty of Gaudi’s (Hostesses/Hosts) that will teach you. When you’re all polka’d out, take a stroll outside and visit the Budenstrasse (Avenue of the Booths). This area features games and vendors to entertain the entire family. You can even get your palm read! Do you have little ones in your family? The Kinder Garten features bounce houses, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, airbrush tattoos and carnival games.

Feeling competitive? Enter one of the free contests. Saw a log, hold some steins, or slam an O’Doul’s and enjoy the admiration and fame!

The food at Oktoberfest is varied as well. There is, of course all of the traditional German fare such as brats, pretzels and pickled pig’s feet, as well as the Cafe Americana which has burgers, onion rings, tacos, nachos and more.

And finally, the beer (or as the Germans spell it, bier) .There are two main inside bars and two outside bier gardens – the Warsteiner Bier Garten and the Sports Garten. The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest pours both German and American beers as well as wine, soft drinks, coffee, tea, water and sports drinks.

The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest is open weekends from noon to midnight September 8th through November 3rd.

So book a cabin today with RS Vacations and take part in this fun, fall tradition before it is gone for another year! Don’t forget to pack the lederhosen and bring your stein!!

Auf Wiedersehen!

“Visions” Rush Tribute at the Cave

Aug 31, 2018 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

We have a VISION to bring the world renowned RUSH concert to the masses. Since the announcement that Rush has officially retired from the touring scene, their diehard fans the world over, are in need of their fix of live Rush music. While many tributes find it necessary to get the “look” of the band just right with wigs and other attire, Visions believes that the music is #1. The common Rush Head is very skeptical of anyone attempting to reproduce Rush music with any proficiency, not to mention very quick to point out ANY mistakes. With this in mind, and being die hard Rush fans ourselves, the choice to make sure every nuance of a song, from samples to vocal harmonies to analog keyboards, is the priority.

A Visions show is a state of the art experience that should be seen by Rush fans worldwide. It is our dream, and our mission, to do just that.

“Rumours” Fleetwood Mac Tribute at the Cave

Jun 09, 2017 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

The group was formed in the Summer of 2012 and not too long after, word got around. They were set up to play on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands”. Rumours recreates the band’s legendary persona, in all its youthful glory from 1975-1987.

The band is comprised of vocalist/artist/actor Jesika Miller, vocalist/film maker/photographer Rebecca Fishman, drummer Ned Brower (Rooney, Mike Viola), guitarist/producer/engineer Taylor Locke (Rooney, Taylor Locke and the Roughs, The Great Indoors), and bassist/producer/engineer Nic Johns (ROOM8, Ben Lee, Margaret Cho.)

Rumours has meticulously put together a show that spares no detail. From period accurate equipment and costumes to spot on characterizations and musical performances, Rumours takes you back to a time when music was still an unbridled cultural experience and bands weren’t afraid to put on a show.

Relive the rock and roll magic with Rumours.

21st Annual Holcomb Valley Trail Run

Jun 11, 2017 | 07:00AM – 03:00PM

Starting at the water’s edge of Big Bear Lake, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run brings runners deep into the heart of the most scenic area in Big Bear, Holcomb Valley. Breathtaking views of the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area, Big Bear Lake, and the surrounding valley can be seen from the miles of single track running along the Pacific Crest Trail.  The Holcomb Valley Trail Run offers three separate distances: a 33-mile race, a 15-mile race, and a 7-mile race. Sections of the Pacific Crest Trail are part of each race course. This is some of the best trail running in Southern California; so sign up early, the race has sold out the past 5 years.

Now in it’s 21st year, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run was established by Gary & Pam Kalina in 1997. Gary was an avid runner; he realized that some of the best trail running in Southern California was right here in Big Bear. Their involvement is crucial to the success of the event. Gary and Pam had decided after 15 years of event directing and coordination it was time to close that chapter in their life. Team Big Bear now runs the event in their honor

Jul 15, 2017 | 09:00AM – 04:00PM

The 2016/2017 winter season has seen above average snow and rainfall, compared to years in the recent past. Does this mean the drought is over? Maybe for some parts of California, but not for Big Bear Valley.

The 15th Annual Big Bear Valley Xeriscape Garden Tour, put on by the Sierra Club Big Bear Group, is the perfect opportunity to get landscaping ideas, discover drought tolerant plants and learn how to save money on your water bill, all while creating a beautiful drought-tolerant garden. As an added bonus, one of the homes will feature a landscape that is both low-water use and fire-wise.

This year’s theme, “Water Conservation…A Big Bear Way of Life,” will focus on Big Bear’s unique water situation and how everyone can do their part to conserve water while still creating beautiful and exciting yards and gardens.

The tour will once again include the DWP’s Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on Fox Farm Road, in front of the Community Garden, with native plant expert Orchid Black on hand to answer questions. In addition, there will be a variety of homeowner gardens, some landscaped by professionals and others by the homeowners. No matter your budget, you’ll find solutions for creating low-maintenance, drought tolerant gardens right here in Big Bear Valley.

So mark your calendars for the 15th annual Xeriscape Garden Tour to take place on Saturday, July 15th. Mountaintop Trail Rally at Snow Summit to Benefit Big Bear Trails

Jul 30, 2017 | 08:00AM – 04:00PM

In short, Big Bear’s Mountaintop Trail Rally is just what it says it is- a gathering… for trail users… on the top of a mountain… and we want you there. Equal parts race and leisure, MTR is much more than getting out on trails. It’s a celebration of our beautiful trail system in Big Bear and what all trail stakeholders (which includes the community) have accomplished improving it throughout the years.

What’s more, all proceeds directly benefit Big Bear’s trail system, so we’ll have more to celebrate next year. Presented by Team Big Bear, and through the strong partnership between the Southern California Mountains Foundation and the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation, the Mountaintop Trail Rally aims to unite the widest range of trail users in a single place through a competitive mountain bike race, non-competitive mountain bike ride, trail run, and hike. In other words, any way you enjoy the trails up here using muscle power you will love participating in this event!

The event will be held at Snow Summit and all entry fees include Sky Chair rides at the resort and lunch at their Skyline Taproom on top of their resort, or at the Big Horn Blues BBQ at the base of the resort.

Sky Chair lifts open at 8:30 am for this event, so start early for cooler temps.

Choose from 4 events:

“Metalachi” at the CAVE

Feb 11, 2017 | 06:30PM – 10:00PM

On a hot, hot summer night in Veracruz Mexico circa 1982, Consuela Espinoza stumbled out of her dilapidated shanty and into Rock N Roll history. What began as an innocent night of snorting horse tranquilizers in a hotel room with seven members of the village jai alai team went on to produce the greatest metal band to ever live. Unhampered by a steady regime of tequila and ill advised sumo lessons, nine months later five bastard children where born. Unable to care for her hungry offspring and concerned that motherhood would seriously interfere with her Tuesday night Karaoke league, Consuela hastily packed the babies into the saddlebags of a burro and sent her children off to America in search of a better life.

Against all odds, 14 years later, and nearly dead from dehydration, the burro knelt down to drink from the stagnant waters of the Rio Grande just outside of Juarez Mexico –mere yards from the U.S. border. With one fleeting burst of energy the brothers Espinoza cinco climbed from their leather restraints and scampered the vast reach of the river, collapsing onto the sweet amber hue of American soil. As if by destiny, lodged in the sand beneath their tanned faces was a record sleeve upon which were the words “PARANOID” and “BLACK SABBATH”. For many years to follow, this definitive black metal album served not only as a teacher and a mentor..but also as a friend. From these bleak and humble begins grew the seed that would eventually be the band we know today. Often referred to as the greatest heavy metal band to ever live..always referred to as…METALACHI.
