Race your family members down one of the longest runs in Southern California.

How about seeing Big Bear from a different perspective? Take a Helicopter tour of the snow-covered Valley, a Segway tour through town or a Jeep Tour into the forest that finishes with an exhilarating zip-lining experience through the treetops.

We also have, ice skating, horseback riding, bowling, laser tag, movie theaters, spas, a museum, a zoo and so much more. There are restaurants and bars for every taste, live music, and the Village is packed full of charming shops. We really do have it all!

If you are lucky enough to spend the Holidays with us, you can take part in Santa’s Grand Entrance and Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, Christmas in the Village, the New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade or New Year’s Eve parties at Bear Mountain, Snow Summit or several other places in the Valley.

Big-Bear-Lake-Cross-Country-Skiing_33_656x420Most of us are looking to get more exercise in our life. Whether it is to lose weight, stay fit or for medical reasons, getting a good workout is beneficial to us all. Why not have fun while you’re doing it? I was curious to see how many calories I could burn while participating in Big Bear’s winter sports.

Here are the numbers according to WebMD.com:

Downhill Skiing, moderate – 545 calories burned per hour

Cross-Country Skiing, moderate – 636 calories burned per hour

Snow Shoeing – 727 calories burned per hour

Sledding – 636 calories burned per hour (I am assuming it is ‘the old fashioned way’, trudging up the hill)

Ice Skating – 636 calories burned per hour

Hiking – 545 calories burned per hour

That’s a lot of calories burned while having fun! Way better than hours on a treadmill. Come on up to beautiful blue skies, fresh powder and crisp, clean air to get your workout on! RS Vacations – Big Bear has cabins available for every budget. Most have a relaxing spa to soak in after a hard day’s play and many are just a few minutes away from the slopes.
