“Rumours” Fleetwood Mac Tribute at the Cave

Jun 09, 2017 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

The group was formed in the Summer of 2012 and not too long after, word got around. They were set up to play on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands”. Rumours recreates the band’s legendary persona, in all its youthful glory from 1975-1987.

The band is comprised of vocalist/artist/actor Jesika Miller, vocalist/film maker/photographer Rebecca Fishman, drummer Ned Brower (Rooney, Mike Viola), guitarist/producer/engineer Taylor Locke (Rooney, Taylor Locke and the Roughs, The Great Indoors), and bassist/producer/engineer Nic Johns (ROOM8, Ben Lee, Margaret Cho.)

Rumours has meticulously put together a show that spares no detail. From period accurate equipment and costumes to spot on characterizations and musical performances, Rumours takes you back to a time when music was still an unbridled cultural experience and bands weren’t afraid to put on a show.

Relive the rock and roll magic with Rumours.

21st Annual Holcomb Valley Trail Run

Jun 11, 2017 | 07:00AM – 03:00PM

Starting at the water’s edge of Big Bear Lake, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run brings runners deep into the heart of the most scenic area in Big Bear, Holcomb Valley. Breathtaking views of the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area, Big Bear Lake, and the surrounding valley can be seen from the miles of single track running along the Pacific Crest Trail.  The Holcomb Valley Trail Run offers three separate distances: a 33-mile race, a 15-mile race, and a 7-mile race. Sections of the Pacific Crest Trail are part of each race course. This is some of the best trail running in Southern California; so sign up early, the race has sold out the past 5 years.

Now in it’s 21st year, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run was established by Gary & Pam Kalina in 1997. Gary was an avid runner; he realized that some of the best trail running in Southern California was right here in Big Bear. Their involvement is crucial to the success of the event. Gary and Pam had decided after 15 years of event directing and coordination it was time to close that chapter in their life. Team Big Bear now runs the event in their honor

Dick Dale at the Cave

Jul 01, 2017 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

Dick Dale invented surf music in the 1950’s. Not the ’60’s as is commonly believed. He was given the title “King of the Surf Guitar” by his fellow surfers with whom he surfed with from sun-up to sun-down. He met Leo Fender the guitar and amplifier Guru and Leo asked Dale to play his newly creation, the Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar. The minute Dale picked up the guitar, Leo Fender broke into uncontrolled laughter and disbelief, he was watching Dale play a right handed guitar upside down and backwards, Dale was playing a right handed guitar left handed and changing the chords in his head then transposing the chords to his hands to create a sound never heard before.

The 15th Annual Xeriscape Garden Tour

Jul 15, 2017 | 09:00AM – 04:00PM

The 2016/2017 winter season has seen above average snow and rainfall, compared to years in the recent past. Does this mean the drought is over? Maybe for some parts of California, but not for Big Bear Valley.

The 15th Annual Big Bear Valley Xeriscape Garden Tour, put on by the Sierra Club Big Bear Group, is the perfect opportunity to get landscaping ideas, discover drought tolerant plants and learn how to save money on your water bill, all while creating a beautiful drought-tolerant garden. As an added bonus, one of the homes will feature a landscape that is both low-water use and fire-wise.

This year’s theme, “Water Conservation…A Big Bear Way of Life,” will focus on Big Bear’s unique water situation and how everyone can do their part to conserve water while still creating beautiful and exciting yards and gardens.

The tour will once again include the DWP’s Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on Fox Farm Road, in front of the Community Garden, with native plant expert Orchid Black on hand to answer questions. In addition, there will be a variety of homeowner gardens, some landscaped by professionals and others by the homeowners. No matter your budget, you’ll find solutions for creating low-maintenance, drought tolerant gardens right here in Big Bear Valley.

So mark your calendars for the 15th annual Xeriscape Garden Tour to take place on Saturday, July 15th. Participants can begin the FREE self-guided tour anytime between 9 am and noon starting at Eminger’s Mountain Nursery, located at 41223 Big Bear Blvd. in Big Bear Lake, across the street from the Denny’s Restaurant.  A tour booklet, which includes the locations and directions for the tour stops, and helpful information on Xeriscape gardening in the mountains, will be handed out at the starting location. Once registered, participants will have until 4:00 pm to complete the self-guided driving tour of the homes in Big Bear Valley.

“Metalachi” at the CAVE

Feb 11, 2017 | 06:30PM – 10:00PM

On a hot, hot summer night in Veracruz Mexico circa 1982, Consuela Espinoza stumbled out of her dilapidated shanty and into Rock N Roll history. What began as an innocent night of snorting horse tranquilizers in a hotel room with seven members of the village jai alai team went on to produce the greatest metal band to ever live. Unhampered by a steady regime of tequila and ill advised sumo lessons, nine months later five bastard children where born. Unable to care for her hungry offspring and concerned that motherhood would seriously interfere with her Tuesday night Karaoke league, Consuela hastily packed the babies into the saddlebags of a burro and sent her children off to America in search of a better life.

Against all odds, 14 years later, and nearly dead from dehydration, the burro knelt down to drink from the stagnant waters of the Rio Grande just outside of Juarez Mexico –mere yards from the U.S. border. With one fleeting burst of energy the brothers Espinoza cinco climbed from their leather restraints and scampered the vast reach of the river, collapsing onto the sweet amber hue of American soil. As if by destiny, lodged in the sand beneath their tanned faces was a record sleeve upon which were the words “PARANOID” and “BLACK SABBATH”. For many years to follow, this definitive black metal album served not only as a teacher and a mentor..but also as a friend. From these bleak and humble begins grew the seed that would eventually be the band we know today. Often referred to as the greatest heavy metal band to ever live..always referred to as…METALACHI.

  • “Jumping Jack Flash” Stones Tribute at the Cave

Apr 16, 2016 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

It began for them the way it always has–in a dimly lit, smoky nightclub. But who that was present at those long-ago performances by the Rolling Stones would have guessed that they’d become icons, and perhaps the most revered and enduring act of all-time? Imagine walking into a nearby historic theater and happening upon a performance by the youthful Stones!

They’re all there; Mick is prancing and gyrating, Keith is ripping licks and prowling the stage with his trusty beat-up Fender guitar. Charlie and Bill are intense as they lay down the back-beat, and Brian Jones looks regal as he lords over his stage.

But there’s something amiss; although this incredible scenario has most certainly taken place, this isn’t swinging London circa 1964 but rather, your town today.

Put down that pint, mate… take a closer look–it’s Jumping Jack Flash, the world’s greatest tribute to the Rolling Stones!

  • Big Bear Airport Young Eagles Program KIDS FLY FREE!

May 14, 2016 | 09:00AM – 12:00PM

Big Bear Airport Young Eagles Program KIDS FLY FREE!

The Young Eagles program is held at the Airport and flys on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to noon, May through September. This is a wonderful experience for young flyers. The Young Eagles program was started by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in an effort to stimulate interest in aviation for young people.

Children between the ages of 8 and 17 are offered a free airplane ride around the Big Bear area by pilots from the Pilot’s Association. Pilots must be a member of the Pilot’s Association and the EAA in order to participate in this program. We have run this program for five years and have flown thousands of children. Each child will be given a pre-flight review of the basics of flight and the main parts of an airplane prior to the flight.

No appointments are necessary, but each child must be accompanied by a parent or adult who must sign a release of liability for the child and can then take pictures of the happy flyer after their flight.

Due to inclement weather at times in Big Bear, Young Eagles flights may be cancelled at short notice.

For further information on this program call Roger Schmidt at (909)547-0832. For additional background information and activity suggestions log on to the Young Eagles web site at www.youngeagles.org.
