Oktoberfest – Herzlich Willkommen!

Sept. 10 – Nov. 5, 2022

Located in a quiet, forested town, Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest continuously ranks among the top Southern California festivals year after year. This authentic German celebration highlights family, friendship, and togetherness.

German Feast & Beer, Prost!

Come hungry for a German feast fit for a king. Enjoy bratwurst, knockwurst, or kielbasa with home-style sauerkraut or German potato salad (served warm), Bavarian potato dumplings, beer cheese soup, and colossal, mega-sized pretzels. Save room for desert because the fresh German apple strudel with warm vanilla sauce drizzled on top is a dream come true for taste buds!

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest also has a solid reputation for its wide selection of German beers like Spaten (lager and Oktoberfest), Franziskaner, Warsteiner (pilsner and dunkel) and Konig Ludwig. There are two full-service bars located inside the Convention Center and four different beer gardens outside, which includes The High-Altitude Beer Garden, The Sports Garten, Warsteiner Bier Garten and the Tiki Bar.

Traditional Contests & Live Music

Oktoberfest contests and games are designed to give revelers a chance to compete for prizes and bragging rights, which include stein holding matches, log sawing competitions, the safe slam beer drinking races (non-alcoholic), and the annual Queen Stein Carrying Contest.

Children’s fun-and-games include the pretzel toss, kiddy mug-holding matches and Midway carnival-style games. The only thing that matters about Oktoberfest contests is people have tons of fun!

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest is proud to bring traditional live German music to the 2022 festival!

Frankenrebellen Express from the Franconia region of Bavaria is slated to perform October 1-2 and October 7-9. They sing with thick German accents and deliver exuberant party music that’s driven by a hearty, rhythmic oompah-pah sound. Oktoberfest’s other seven weekends are booked with Southern California’s top German-style bands including Die Sauerkrauts, Hazelnuss Das Music, Da Stuben Buden, and Ladyhosen featuring international yodeling sensation Kathrin Jakob.

These bands perform on the main stage inside the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. Each band is known to stir up good times with a mix of popular cover songs, original tunes, and of course traditional Bavarian sing-alongs like “Ein-Prosit,” “Hands to Heaven,” and “Das Esellied” that are certain to bring plenty of smiles and cheers. A second stage located outside, in the High-Altitude Beer Garden, features a variety of regional bands that perform rock ‘n’ roll and country music.

As we have been enjoying spectacular, spring weather the last several weeks, I got to thinking how very much I love this time of year in Big Bear. It brought to mind a post of mine from several years ago at this time and I decided to share it once again. Yes, Big Bear is a beautiful wintertime destination and is what we are known for, but it is not only a wintertime destination. Enjoy!

As winter in Big Bear Lake has come to a close, I can’t help but look forward to spring and summertime in the mountains. I love the warming days and cool nights, the flowers and trees blooming, the blue skies….truly beautiful.

Big Bear Spring

One of the most surprising things to me is that most people believe that Big Bear is strictly a winter destination – no more than a ski town. I can’t even count how many guests ask me what we do up here the rest of the year. Or, when I suggested that they visit us in spring or summer, they asked “but what is there to do?”

golf in the mountains_0

I guess I take it all for granted because I moved to Big Bear as a small child in 1977 with my family, but truly winter is my least favorite season in Big Bear. Don’t get me wrong, the snow is beautiful and I do enjoy skiing, but there is just so much more to do in the other months. Lake activities such as kayaking, fishing, boating and more, golfing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, the zoo, go-karts, ropes courses, climbing walls, ziplines, the alpine slide, and waterslide. The list goes on and on!! Not to mention the shopping and restaurants in The Village, art shows, wine walks, car shows, music events, theater offerings, and holiday events – including the annual Independence Day fireworks show.

While ‘June gloom’ gets you down, we are enjoying sparkling blue skies! When you are sweating it out in July, we are putting on a light sweater for our evening walks. Seriously people, it is GORGEOUS up here in the spring, summer, and fall!! And guess what? It is less expensive to enjoy Big Bear in the “off” seasons as well. Do yourself a favor and come up to explore Big Bear Lake in the warmer months. You will be amazed at our perfect weather and how much there is to do up here.

“Rumours” Fleetwood Mac Tribute at the Cave

Jun 09, 2017 | 06:30PM – 11:30PM

The group was formed in the Summer of 2012 and not too long after, word got around. They were set up to play on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands”. Rumours recreates the band’s legendary persona, in all its youthful glory from 1975-1987.

The band is comprised of vocalist/artist/actor Jesika Miller, vocalist/film maker/photographer Rebecca Fishman, drummer Ned Brower (Rooney, Mike Viola), guitarist/producer/engineer Taylor Locke (Rooney, Taylor Locke and the Roughs, The Great Indoors), and bassist/producer/engineer Nic Johns (ROOM8, Ben Lee, Margaret Cho.)

Rumours has meticulously put together a show that spares no detail. From period accurate equipment and costumes to spot on characterizations and musical performances, Rumours takes you back to a time when music was still an unbridled cultural experience and bands weren’t afraid to put on a show.

Relive the rock and roll magic with Rumours.

Sections of the Pacific Crest Trail are part of each race course. This is some of the best trail running in Southern California; so sign up early, the race has sold out the past 5 years.

Now in it’s 21st year, the Holcomb Valley Trail Run was established by Gary & Pam Kalina in 1997. Gary was an avid runner; he realized that some of the best trail running in Southern California was right here in Big Bear. Their involvement is crucial to the success of the event. Gary and Pam had decided after 15 years of event directing and coordination it was time to close that chapter in their life. Team Big Bear now runs the event in their honor

The 15th Annual Big Bear Valley Xeriscape Garden Tour, put on by the Sierra Club Big Bear Group, is the perfect opportunity to get landscaping ideas, discover drought tolerant plants and learn how to save money on your water bill, all while creating a beautiful drought-tolerant garden. As an added bonus, one of the homes will feature a landscape that is both low-water use and fire-wise.

The tour will once again include the DWP’s Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on Fox Farm Road, in front of the Community Garden, with native plant expert Orchid Black on hand to answer questions. In addition, there will be a variety of homeowner gardens, some landscaped by professionals and others by the homeowners. Mountaintop Trail Rally at Snow Summit to Benefit Big Bear Trails

Jul 30, 2017 | 08:00AM – 04:00PM

In short, Big Bear’s Mountaintop Trail Rally is just what it says it is- a gathering… for trail users… on the top of a mountain… and we want you there. Equal parts race and leisure, MTR is much more than getting out on trails. It’s a celebration of our beautiful trail system in Big Bear and what all trail stakeholders (which includes the community) have accomplished improving it throughout the years.

What’s more, all proceeds directly benefit Big Bear’s trail system, so we’ll have more to celebrate next year. Presented by Team Big Bear, and through the strong partnership between the Southern California Mountains Foundation and the Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation, the Mountaintop Trail Rally aims to unite the widest range of trail users in a single place through a competitive mountain bike race, non-competitive mountain bike ride, trail run, and hike. In other words, any way you enjoy the trails up here using muscle power you will love participating in this event!

The event will be held at Snow Summit and all entry fees include Sky Chair rides at the resort and lunch at their Skyline Taproom on top of their resort, or at the Big Horn Blues BBQ at the base of the resort.

Sky Chair lifts open at 8:30 am for this event, so start early for cooler temps.

Choose from 4 events:

Skyline Time Trial, presented by Team Big Bear – $65. 9 am start time.

Vertical Mile Run, brought to you by Kodiak Kids Trail Runs – $30, all ages, race starts at 10 am.
