We received several inches of snow last week which gave the Big Bear Mountain Ski Resorts and local Snow Tubing Areas a much needed boost. Conditions are fantastic!!   • Meteor Watching & Campfire at The Big Bear Discovery Center

     Join the Southern California Mountains Foundation for an evening under the stars at the Big Bear Discovery Center Amphitheater on Friday, May 23rd at 8pm. Our first Star Party will kick off our campfire series held every Friday and Saturday through Labor Day.

    This is sure to be an exciting evening as Comet 209P/LINEAR is predicted to shower the night sky with the most “shooting stars” North America has seen in decades. The campfire will begin at 8pm with a brief presentation about our night skies, including common constellations and stars you may see during your time in Big Bear and continue into the evening with telescopes set up in our large parking lot for public viewing.

    Admission $5 Children under 5 FREE…Campers staying at Serrano Campground FREE as well

    Bring blankets, chairs and warm layers and set up your own cozy spot to gaze upon the sky above. Hot chocolate, coffee, snacks and s’mores will on be on sale.

    All proceeds benefit the Southern California Mountains Foundation and help us reach our mission of “Education, Conservation and Responsible Recreation on Public Lands.”

  • Meteor Shower Cruise on Miss Liberty

    May 23, 2014 11:00PM – May 24, 2014 01:00AM

    Witness the birth of the newest meteor shower in style on a cruise aboard the Miss Liberty on Big Bear Lake. In the early morning hours of May 24th, Earth will pass through a stream of dust particles left behind by Comet LINEAR. The resulting meteor shower will likely be spectacular, and Big Bear Lake is in a perfect viewing position.

    The floating star party, which lasts from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., includes light hors d’oeuvres and a toast with champagne or a delicious hot coffee drink.

  • Jefferson Starship at the Cave

    Jefferson Starship, with founding members Paul Kantner and David Freiberg plus Grammy nominated star of “Love, Janis” Cathy Richardson, continue an astonishing 5 decade odyssey begun by Hall of Fame inductee, Kantner who also founded Jefferson Airplane.

    Opening for Jefferson Starship is The Bulldawg Blues Band. The Los Angeles based band performs a unique rock and blues revue of songs. The band’s powerful sound has taken them all across southern California, Nevada, and anywhere blues fans demand a rocking show.

  • Big Bear Lake Half Marathon and Memorial 5K Fun Run

    Welcome to the Big Bear Lake Half Marathon. This is road running at its finest. A scenic and challenging course full of steep up and downs, rolling hills and a two mile climb up to 7,300′ for a gorgeous run through Big Bear Lake’s most scenic neighborhoods.

    Race day also includes the Memorial 5k Fun Run, a scenic and challenging course along the border of the National Forest. Both events share the same Start and Finish in The Village of Big Bear Lake.

    This is an Open Air Big Bear event so you can expect a FUN start and finish in The Village of Big Bear Lake with Live Music and Local Vendors at the Lifestyle Expo.

    The Big Bear Lake Half Marathon and Memorial 5k Fun Run is an official proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project! A portion of each race entry fee will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Last year we raised $1000 for the Wounded Warrior Project at the 1st Memorial 5k Fun Run. With the addition of the Half Marathon we hope to raise a lot more this year!

    The Cave Presents Classic Movie Night with “Miracle on 34th Street”.

    In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.

  • “A Christmas Carol… Askew” at the PAC

    christmas carol askewThe Big Bear Theatre Project presents it’s own hilarious version of the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. Steve Cassling, Ty Warren, and Brian Adams are together again, playing all the familiar Dickens characters and some that were never meant to be part of the story. The show is done in the ‘panto’ style of theatre, so be ready for good jokes, bad jokes, political humor, songs, guys in dresses, and lots of audience involvement.

    ‘A Christmas Carol… askew’ opens Dec. 19th for a four show run at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.

  • Classic Movie Night at the Cave with “It’s a Wonderful Life”

    The Cave Presents Classic Movie Night with “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

    George Bailey has spent his entire life giving of himself to the people of Bedford Falls. He has always longed to travel but never had the opportunity in order to prevent rich skinflint Mr. Potter from taking over the entire town. All that prevents him from doing so is George’s modest building and loan company, which was founded by his generous father. But on Christmas Eve, George’s Uncle Billy loses the business’s $8,000 while intending to deposit it in the bank. Potter finds the misplaced money and hides it from Billy. When the bank examiner discovers the shortage later that night, George realizes that he will be held responsible and sent to jail and the company will collapse, finally allowing Potter to take over the town.   • ANDREW DICE CLAY at the Cave

    Stand-up comedian Andrew Dice Clay, known as the “Undisputed Heavy Weight King of Comedy,” makes a rare appearance at The Cave on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, 2014. Clay will perform his bad-boy style of comedy that made him legendary, including his infamous nursery rhymes. Special guest Eleanor Kerrigan is the opening act and Andrew Dice Clay’s sons Dylan and Max close the show with their rock band LA Rocks. The show starts at 8 p.m. each night.

    Ticket prices for general theatre seating range from $60 to $125. VIP pit table tickets that include cocktail/bottle service are $500. VIP box ticket packages are also available for parties of 12 or more. The show contains graphic language, adult satire and strong sexual content. Anyone 17 and under requires adult supervision. There are no refunds given based on show content. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
