1.  a state of tranquility or quiet, as:

          a. freedom from civil disturbance

          b. a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom

2.  freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions

3.  harmony in personal relations

4. a state or period of mutual concord between governments

5.  a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity

So often I hear people say that they “hope for world peace”. I hope this as well. Do I think this world will ever achieve it? No, because we are humans driven by emotions and the need for power. While I think most of us long for it, there will always be those who strive against it.

While I am saddened by the whole concept of war, it is often necessary to achieve and/or maintain freedom. I am awed by those willing to dedicate and all too often sacrifice their lives in the defense of the liberties we all enjoy in this country. No matter how we feel about the act, we should ALWAYS honor the brave men and women who have and are still out there, securing our freedom. They leave their homes, parents, spouses and children behind, not knowing if they will ever see them again. If they come home, they often return wounded – inside or out – and are too often forgotten. Every day should be Veteran’s Day.
